The author of Wicked returns with a novel inspired by a timeless holiday legend, intertwining the story of the Nutcracker with the life of the mysterious toymaker named Drosselmeier who carves him.

Hiddensee is not really a retelling of the story we all know, but a prequel about Drosselmeier, how he became a toymaker, made the Nutcracker, and became a godfather to Klara.
