Program Description

Event Details

Forget the honey bee and its much-publicized decline for a moment. Pennsylvania is home to over 400 species of wild bees who aid in pollination and who lead diverse and fascinating lives. Discover where and how they live with Penn State Master Gardener Stephanie Szakal.

Learn what differentiates them from flies and wasps; and discover an appreciation for these lesser-known bees who visit your garden and how you can prevent their decline. Registration is required.

A package of flower seeds will be handed out to each participant, courtesy of Gibsonia Lowe's.

Stephanie Szakal has a passion for gardening and a particular love for native plants, pollinators, and pollinator gardens. Stephanie, who became a Penn State Master Gardener in 2015, received a David Gibby Search for Excellence Award as part of a team that was recognized for their work in understanding Pennsylvania's native bee population. Stephanie loves to share her enthusiasm and knowledge with gardeners of all ages and interests.
