In this presentation, Penn State Master Gardener Bill Goff will discuss the importance of Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa) in the lifecycle of the monarch butterfly. The process of starting the beautiful perennial Butterfly Weed from seeds will be demonstrated. As well as a discussion of how to care for them in the garden.

Registration is required.

Bill Goff is a Penn State Master Gardener, whose passion is perennials. Daylilies, hostas, and peonies are his absolute favorites. He has been gardening in the North Hills of Pittsburgh for over 30 years. Bill's award-winning perennial garden has been featured several times on the Fine Gardening Magazine Blog. And most recently, Michelle Gervais, Senior Editor of Fine Gardening magazine, visited and photographed his garden. He is a longtime member of the Longvue Acres Garden Club, where he has served as President and Program Chair. He has also served as chair of the Speakers Bureau for the Penn State Master Gardeners of Allegheny County. He is currently a mentor for newly minted Penn State Master Gardeners. Bill has a passion for the environment, and is a champion of including native plants in the home garden.
